Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said that the smart cities mission is a step in the direction of achieving the vision of improving ease of living particularly for the poor, women, elderly and the differently-abled.
“The smart city mission has a strong focus on innovative digital technologies and dovetails with Digital India ‘vision areas’ such as digital empowerment of citizens, making government services available digitally, and creating digital infrastructure as utility to every citizen,” Puri said at the smart cites summit 2018 hosted by FICCI.
Currently, 90 cities have been selected for the smart city project. Names of ten more cities will be announced shortly. “The smart city approach is different from the traditional one. It is for the first time that cities have co-created a vision and smart city proposal through an extensive citizen engagement,” said Puri.
