The newly-elected Chairman of the Southern Region of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr T.T. Ashok, while committing himself to take forward the work of his predecessors, has avowed to keep close interaction with the governments of the four southern States.

Mr Ashok, who is also the Managing Director of Taylor Rubber Pvt Ltd, told Business Line today that CII-SR would, on the basis of a recently commissioned study of McKinsey, identify the key strengths of each State and work towards playing upon those strengths. For instance, Tamil Nadu has emerged as an automobile and auto components hub, Mr Ashok noted.

The means of engaging with the State governments would also include holding Round Table discussions on various subjects.

Mr Ashok has made ‘CII-S' into an acronym, to mean ‘communication, infrastructure, inclusiveness and sustainability'.

There will also be sector specific shows and events — for example, a ‘maritime show' in Kochi, called ‘Ships'.

In a statement issued soon after his election, Mr Ashok said that the theme for CII for 2011-12 is ‘South India – Accelerate Inclusive Growth & Sustainable Development.'

Mr G.V. Sanjay Reddy, Vice-Chairman, GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd, Hyderabad, has been elected as Deputy Chairman of CII – Southern Region for the year 2011-12.
