IT buildings and factories in Tamil Nadu are to be brought under a special category for property tax assessment, according to an official press release.
The State Government has constituted a committee headed by a Joint Secretary in the Revenue and Finance Department to decide on the assessment.
Weekly meet
This will be along the lines property tax collected for special buildings such as eateries, cinemas, wedding halls, private hospitals used for fixing property tax.
The committee will meet weekly on Fridays and clear the applications for property tax assessment in the same week.
Transparency
The move is in line with Tamil Nadu Government's budget announcement to revamp the property tax assessment and introduce a transparent procedure, the release said.
The procedure for property tax assessment will provide for building owners to submit their request for assessment in Chennai Corporation's Property Return Form-6 to the zonal revenue officers.
Field audit
The officials concerned will do a field audit and enter the data in dedicated software and send the details to the Revenue Department.
Once the data is checked, the committee will clear the application for property tax assessment during its weekly meetings, the release added.
