In an unprecedented move, South Eastern Railway paid taxi fares, amounting to Rs 12,600, for ferrying over 300 passengers in 58 taxis from Howrah and Santragachi stations to their respective destinations. The passengers arrived late at the stations, around 2 am on Friday, because of the late running of the Kandari Express running between Digha and Howrah stations following an accident on a manned level-crossing on the route. Senior railway and RPF officials were at the stations to supervise the operations, according to a press release.
