T-Hub, India’s largest technology incubation centre for start-ups, is set to open its gates in a couple of weeks in Hyderabad. Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has agreed to be a key dignitary at the inauguration.

“The Telangana electronic Hub is a unique partnership between the Telangana government and key stakeholders in the start-up ecosystem,” said BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder Director of T-Hub. “We would like start-ups and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the mentorship that will be provided there; they can learn and interact with accelerators and investors, as well as ideate and innovate,” he said.

Hybrid model

Mohan Reddy is also the newly-appointed Nasscom Chairman. Stating that Hyderabad will soon have a hybrid model of Nasscom’s 10,000 start-ups, the ambitious attempt to scale up the start-up ecosystem in India, Reddy said the overarching objective is to foster entrepreneurship and build entrepreneurial capabilities.

“We need to flag off 10,000 start-ups a year. Currently, we are doing around 2,500-3,000 start-ups a year,” he told BusinessLine , at an interaction in Mumbai.

Stating that several variants to the ecosystem existed, Reddy pointed out, “Some need launch pads, some have to be incubated, some have to accelerated, and some have to be propelled. We have to make sure these start-ups can guzzle themselves, and then there is finance. All of it will be provided,” he added.

Centres of excellence

“T-Hub is about 70,000 sq ft Nasscom will get another 5,000-10,000 sq ft at the same place to create their own warehouses, their centres of excellence. We will focus on assisting young entrepreneurs bridge the knowledge gap that exists, and bring stakeholders together,” he said.

Speaking about the imminent need to create an environment to enhance the growth of start-ups, he said, “Today, we have a need to create a million jobs every month, almost 10 million jobs every year, and 100 million jobs over the next ten years. How is that going to be possible?” he asks, adding: “Our analysis shows that in the next five years, unless we start 50,000 start-ups, this will not be met. T-Hub’s mission is to catalyse the creation of one of the most vibrant entrepreneur communities.”
