India has to devise a comprehensive cyber security strategy in the face of increasing attacks on Government websites and banking systems, said Harjinder Singh Lallie, Senior Teaching Fellow, Cyber Security, University of Warwick.
“A good amount of work has been done in some sectors but in many others it is woefully inadequate.”
The Ministry of Information Technology had said last year that the country will require five lakh cyber security professionals and will take measures to bolster Internet security, but there is more progress to be made, said Lallie.
With the country’s information security market poised to grow 18 per cent to reach Rs 1,415 crore by this year-end on the back of increased spending by companies, it should partner with universities to equip itself to be able to handle attacks.
He said the UK Government allocated £80 million towards university education in cyber security, a move worthy of emulation in India.
