The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probing the 2G spectrum scam will summon all former telecom ministers from 1998 for recording evidence in the 2G scam probe.
The JPC has finalised a list of 85 witnesses who will be asked to depose before it in connection with spectrum issue. The list includes former secretaries of the Department of Telecom, former Chairmen of the TRAI and officials from the Ministry of Finance.
Briefing media after Tuesday meeting JPC Chairman, Mr P.C. Chacko, said that even those who are already behind bars can be summoned to depose before the Committee.
He also said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, Mr A.P. Singh, made a presentation to the Parliamentary Committee on various aspects of the probe into the 2G scam. Mr Singh will be asked to appear before the JPC again.
Mr Chacko also clarified that the CBI Director briefed the JPC about the investigation into Aircel's licence issue but no names of any Minister was taken.
“No names were taken and no member of committee raised any objections to the proceedings of the JPC,” Mr Chacko said.
He added that the JPC was still awaiting a report from the Department of Telecom on quantifying the losses to the exchequer due to the 2G spectrum allocation policy.
When asked as to how the DoT could put a number because the Telecom Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, has already announced that there was zero loss, Mr Chacko said, “DoT is not Telecom Minister.”
