Andhra Pradesh will put in place a new electronic and hardware policy in the next couple of months to attract more investments and promote exports, according to Mr Ajay Mishra, Principal Secretary, Department of IT, Infrastructure and Investment.

The State was lagging behind in hardware industry compared to software, he said while speaking at a seminar on Manufacturing @SEZ in Sri City, Nellore on Wednesday . Sri City, in association with Manufacturers' Association of Information Technology (MAIT), Southern Region, organised the event which was attended by over 50 ICT and electronics hardware manufacturers including Nokia, Lenovo, Ramky Group, IPCA, Mahindra & Mahindra and Foxconn.

Mr Mishra said the State Government wants to focus on hardware sector so that there is growth in all aspects of the ICT sector. Asked about the uncertainties in the State, he reassured the industry delegates that there would be no impact, however minor to the industry as the Government is committed to growth and improving the economy of the State as a whole.

Describing the Secretary's announcement on the policy as a boost in the arm for the industry, Mr Ravindra Sannareddy, MD of Sri City, said the seminar highlighted the need for world class infrastructure to make hardware manufacturing a strong sector.
