Multi System Operator (MSO) Digicable Pvt. Ltd, on Friday said it would invest Rs 225 crore in the next fiscal (FY 2012-13) to supply 1.5 million set-top boxes to its subscribers in the city. The company is planning to offer set-top boxes at a subsidised rate of Rs 500.
The actual set top box is priced at nearly Rs. 1,700 a box. The company will also offer easy instalment schemes at Rs 60 a month for low income groups and a rental scheme for those having transferable jobs.
Apart from West Bengal, Digicable has a strong presence in the cable TV industry in Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh. It also operates in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
According to Mr Jagjit Singh Kohli, managing director and CEO, Digicable, digitised cable distribution will offer huge benefits to consumers and it will do better than DTH services.
