The Kerala Tourism Department has appointed Vodafone as its official partner to support the new technology enabled service called Audio Guide, which has been launched in the State.

This unique service can be accessed from any part of the globe and is available in three languages — English, Hindi and Malayalam. Any one, irrespective of their mobile service provider, can utilise the service with call charges for local users and national roamers at Rs 1 a minute.

Access

To access the service, a user has to dial a unique number 90487 55555, who will then be guided through an IVR which will instantly ask for their preferred language. On making the desired choice, callers will get to hear the codes for each tourist destination. On entering the tourist destination code, they can listen to spoken commentary on the place and get to know it better.

For example, if a tourist is visiting the Mattancherry Palace in Kochi, to know the place better, they can dial the unique number. On dialling the number, the IVR will prompt for the destination code, which in this case is 101. When the number is entered, the Audio Guide will give information on the history and cultural heritage of the site. Description of specific tourist spots and details of exhibits at a place can also be heard by entering the code number displayed next to the exhibit.

Mr K. Sundararaman, Business Head, Vodafone Kerala, said the company is proud to be associated with the Kerala Tourism Department as the Official Partner for the Audio Guide service . To know a State so rich in culture, a tourist typically has to understand the legacy of the place. And now, with the Audio Guide powered by Vodafone, one can tour a place at their own pace and convenience since the service has fast forward, rewind and pause facilities, he said.
