Asianet Digital Network has launched the ‘Asianet Smart Magic Box’, to become what the multi-systems operator (MSO) claims to be the first to launch a 4K, ultra-high definition, hybrid set-top box, powered by Android TV.

Asianet Digital Network is a fully-owned subsidiary of Asianet Satellite Communications, a market leader in digital TV services in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Built-in features

The Smart Magic Box has built-in Google Assistant and Google Cast with Dolby and Dolby Plus audio, that delivers conventional linear TV channels and facilitates streaming video and online games from various apps.

It is powered by Android 8.0 with Verimatrix CAS (conditional access system) and supports voice search.

It supports all Google applications including YouTube, Google Drive, Google Photos, Google Chrome and Google Maps, and is compatible with third-party apps such as Amazon Prime, Hotstar, TED, and Facebook. “It is also compatible with smartphones and can be used to search, browse, queue and control the TV from anywhere in the home,” a company spokesman said.

The Google Assistant transforms it into a hub to access entertainment, get answers and control devices around home. The Smart Box enables Life-like viewing experience and supports dual band Wi-Fi and bluetooth. “The remote controller works on voice search, making it very easy to search and browse hundreds of TV channels and thousands of videos by simple voice commands,” he added.

Asianet Smart Magic Box provides linear and non-linear content with a ‘time shift’ option which helps the viewer to watch content as per their convenience.

“Compared to an investment of around ₹30,000 on a new smart TV, Asianet Smart Magic Box is available at ₹5,999 only,” the spokesman said, introducing a special launch offer.

The Asianet Smart Magic Box is available at ₹3,999 (plus GST) for annual paying subscribers of Asianet Digital TV, Asianet Broadband and Asianet Giga Fibernet services.

Focus on content

G Sankaranarayana, President and Chief Operating Officer, Asianet Digital Network, said that the company would like to provide online entertainment (video and gaming) to subscribers in an affordable way. “We are proud to have Android TV as the operating system for Asianet Smart Magic Box enabling our subscribers to access over 3,000 apps including games using the Google Assistant,” he said.

Pranab Mookken, Head, Android & Play Partnerships, Google India, said that the Android TV looks to offer a content-first experience, by facilitating content from multiple apps right on a user’s TV screen.

New TV sets

Asianet Digital Network also announced the launch of the Asianet LED TV television sets. This standard definition, full high-definition 4K smart TV, comes in a range between 32” and 65”.

Asianet Digital LED TVs are equipped with multi-connectivity ports including 2 HDMI port, 2 USB port, VGA Port, RCA and an earphone jack, with A+ Grade Panel for a wide angle view, coupled with an HD-ready screen and audio system with 16W power.

It also comes with a digital noise reduction feature to minimise sounds from all input devices. Special launch offer include discounts of up to 40 per cent, including cable TV subscription discounts.
