Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has facilitated the distribution of identity card for all commercial drivers operating at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB), enrolled under the ‘Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Benefit Scheme’.
Under the scheme 2,000 drivers are insured under the Karnataka government scheme at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
KIAB has become the first airport in the country to promote the government scheme covering commercial drivers serving its passengers under Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Benefit Scheme.
The ID cards were distributed in the presence of Dr D S Vishwanath, Karnataka Commissioner of Labour and Dr Shripad S B, Deputy Labour Commissioner, together with the BIAL management.
In an initiative to protect the welfare of the family members of workers who fall under the unorganized workers category, the Government of Karnataka in 2012-13 introduced the accidental insurance - Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Benefit Scheme in 2012-13.
This scheme covers the insurance of family members of drivers in the event of a fatality and provides insurance for commercial drivers both on and off duty.
