Heptagon Technologies concluded the 2nd edition of “Hackday”, its hackathon in Coimbatore, with the winning team receiving a cash prize of ₹20000.

Vijayramkumar Veeraraghavan, Heptagon’s co-founder and Chief Executive, told BusinessLine that the event was an internal hackathon, for its employees from across its facility in Bengaluru and Coimbatore.

As against the maiden event which registered a participation of 40, the Hackday this year saw twice the number of participants. “But then, we were only a 40-member team last year. We are now 110-member team. Ninety of them competed in the 2nd edition,” said Veeraraghavan.

Tech-based challenges

Software developers competed in areas such as AI chat, employee performance, block chain, facial recognition, building management and augmented reality-based shopping apps.

“We believe in supporting such innovations as it has helped build scalable and global technology solutions in collaboration with our customers. In the normal course of their job, the employees are not able to learn much on new technology. Such feats help take the product to the next level,” said Veeraraghavan.

“The previous edition saw groundbreaking product ideas eventually leading to the conception of Ara, a digital receptionist that has revolutionised organisations through paperless, secure and interactive visitor management system” he said, adding “the presence of Ajit Isaac, Chairman and MD of Quess Corp at the final event truly inspired the participants.”
