This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will see the launch of the second mobile handset developed by Vertu for Bentley. The Vertu Signature for Bentley is the result of a five-year deal between the British car maker Bentley and luxury phone manufacturer Vertu.

Vertu’s phones typically focus on voice calls and high-quality sound reproduction and the Vertu Signature for Bentley will continue this tradition. Vertu claims that it will offer crystal-clear voice clarity, with side-mounted speakers, enhanced with stereo widening software, ensuring rich and accurate sound.

The Signature for Bentley is inspired by the Mulsanne Speed, Bentley’s flagship model. The design cues drawn from the Mulsanne are apparent in parts such as the carbon fibre pillow and the polished stainless steel sides. In addition, the leather used in the phone and the case that it comes with are sourced from the same tannery that Bentley uses for its cars.

Vertu also offers an impressive range of customisation options. Using an online tool, customers can match their phone styling with that of their Bentley or attempt to create their own design from “2,300 possible combinations,” featuring a dizzying array of colours and precious stones.

The Signature for Bentley, like other Vertu models before it, comes with the premium proposition of being hand-crafted from the strongest materials available. This claim is borne-out by the screen made of sapphire, which according to Vertu, is virtually scratch-proof.

Buying the Signature for Bentley also entitles its owner to a year’s access to Vertu Concierge, a personal assistant service of sorts which will offer “expert assistance designed to meet your every need, 24 hours a day”. This feature can be accessed through the dedicated Vertu key- a ruby button on the side of the handset.

Since its launch in 2002, Vertu’s voice-centric Signature range has religiously avoided the feature war in favour of simplicity and premium build quality. With its premium construction and simple choice of ‘call’ or ‘text’, the Signature has a special place in the mobile phone world.
