US-based telecom technology solutions/equipment provider Powerwave Technologies is planning to invest $3 million to expand its R&D facility in Hyderabad. The $591-million company (2010) would also be ramping up its headcount in India from the existing 240 to 340 by the end of this year, Mr Ezmarai Arbab, its Vice-President – Global Engineering and Emerging Markets Business Unit, Powerwave Technologies, told newspersons here on Wednesday.
“Our India R&D centre here is a pivotal part of Powerwave's global R&D. In addition, many Indian telecom companies are also our customers,” he said.
According to Mr Rakesh Sinha, Head of Hyderabad R&D centre, the centre had earned a revenue of Rs 33 crore in 2010. “By the end of this year, this is likely to go up to Rs 40 crore,'' he added.
To help groom talent for the industry, Powerwave has tied up with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Hyderabad. “We have set up an advanced lab in its campus to take up joint research programmes,” Mr Sinha said.
