This week at Sale 17, the total offerings (packages) at three North Indian auctions centres at Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri were 123,356 as compared to 98,490 in the corresponding sale of last year, according to J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd, the tea auctioneers.

In this week's sale, the share of Kolkata was 41,861 (51880) comprising 30,907 (40,956) of CTC/Dust, 9,290 (9,324) of Orthodox and 1,664 (1,600) of Darjeeling.

The corresponding offerings at Guwahati were 33,121 (nil) and Siliguri 48,374 (46,610).

Selected good Assam CTC offerings sold well around last levels while the remainder were irregularly lower. Selected well made Dooars generally maintained levels while the remainder were lower. Western India and local dealers were active with fair support from other internal sections. Major blenders were quiet. There was selective export enquiry on plainer bolder brokens.

A few well made Orthodox whole leaf grades sold well while the remainder were lower. Smaller brokens and fannings met with lower enquiry and eased in line with quality. West Asia exporters were selective with some interest from the CIS. There was selected Continental interest in tippy sorts. Good support came from local dealers for the fannings and smaller brokens.
