Cardamom prices rose by Rs 21 to Rs 1,158 a kg in futures trading today after speculators enlarged positions, driven by pick up in spot demand. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in April rose by Rs 21 or 1.85 per cent to Rs 1,158 a kg, with an open interest of just one lot.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in March moved up by Rs 15.50 or 1.43 per cent to Rs 1,098 a kg, with a business turnover of a single lot.
Traders said increased demand in the spot market triggered by the ongoing marriage season, mainly led the rise in prices at the futures market. Restricted arrivals from southern producing regions too supported the uptrend in futures prices, they added.
