The price of spot turmeric decreased slightly on Thursday .
“Due to Erode Mariamman festival and Telugu New Year's day, the Erode turmeric market was closed for 11 days from Friday and will again assemble on April 5. So the farmers brought more than 25,000 bags of turmeric to the market. To fulfill the orders received from various places, the bulk buyers purchased good stock, but did not quote high price. In fact, the prices decreased by Rs 200 a quintal. But the Salem crop shows a slight increase of Rs 70 a quintal,” said Mr R. K. V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Because of the closure of the market for 11 days, some farmers sold their product for a lower price.
In the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, finger variety was sold at Rs 7,619-9,899 a quintal and root variety Rs 7,500-9,104 a quintal.
Salem Crop
The finger variety was sold at Rs 9,740-11,369 a quintal, root variety, Rs 9,604-10,400 a quintal. 8,146 bags were kept for sale and 1,222 bags were sold.
In Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 7,360-9,839 a quintal, root variety, Rs 6,600-9,607 a quintal. Out of the 438 bags that arrived for sale, 322 bags were sold.
In the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety fetched Rs 8,405-10,051 a quintal, root variety, Rs 7,633-9,396 a quintal. Out of the 2,052 bags that arrived, 1,803 bags were sold.
In the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 8,850-9,689 a quintal. Root variety was sold at Rs 8,789-9,460 a quintal. Out of the 1,986 bags that arrived, 1,304 were sold.
