As much as 25 per cent of the offer at Sale No: 46 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association remained unsold due to inadequate demand despite the average prices crashing to ₹77 a kg – the lowest of the last two months.Darmona Estate created a hat-trick by fetching top prices for the third consecutive week. Its Broken Orange Pekoe Small, auctioned by J Thomas and Co P Ltd, topped the CTC Leaf auctions and the entire CTC market at ₹281 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹212. Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹256 a kg despite the market being flooded with reports of raids in all units associated with Sasikala including Kodanad and Curzon (Green Tea) estates. All other teas got less than ₹200.
