The Cotton Association of India has estimated cotton crop output for the 2013-14 season (started October, 2013) at 395 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) against 388 lakh bales estimated in June. Total cotton supply is estimated at 453 lakh bales while the domestic consumption is seen at 255 lakh bales, thus leaving an available surplus of 158 lakh bales.
The arrivals up to June 30 were placed at 382.30 lakh bales and continue well into the off season, the press release added. Arrivals in Gujarat – India’s top cotton producer – were the highest at 120 lakh bales, followed by Maharashtra at 84 lakh bales.
