Wheat and rice basmati prices dropped up to Rs 50 a quintal in the wholesale grains market on Saturday on emergence of stockists selling and reduced offtake by flour mills. However, bajra found selective buying and rose smartly.

Traders said the fall in wheat and rice basmati prices was mostly due to reduced offtake by flour mills and stockists. They said selling by stockists due to sluggish demand led to the decline in rice basmati prices.

In the national capital, wheat (deshi) fell by Rs 30 to Rs 1,550-1,700 and wheat dara (for mills) by Rs 25 to Rs 1,140-1,145 a quintal.

Atta chakki delivery followed suit and lost Rs 25 to Rs 1,145-1,150 for 90 kg and atta flour mills shed Rs 5 to Rs 645-665 for 50 kg.

In the rice section, rice basmati Pusa-1121 variety declined by Rs 50 to Rs 4,100-4,850 and non-basmati permal raw and wand lost Rs 25 each to Rs 1,850-1,900 and Rs 2,000-2,100 a quintal, respectively. On the other hand, bajra rose by Rs 40 to Rs 1,000-1,010 a quintal as industrial demand picked up.
