Silver prices rose Rs 81 to Rs 38,297 per kg at the futures trade as speculators built up positions owing to a firm global trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May was trading higher by Rs 81 or 0.21 per cent at Rs 38,297 per kg in a business turnover of 556 lots. Also, the white metal for delivery in July was up Rs 69 or 0.18 per cent at Rs 38,809 per kg in five lots.
Analysts said the rise in prices was mostly attributed to building up of fresh positions by speculators, tracking a firm trend overseas, as a weak dollar raised demand for the precious metals as a safe haven.
Meanwhile, silver rose 0.34 per cent to $16.22 an ounce in Singapore.
