Investors should study companies carefully for a long time and monitor their performance on a regular basis before investing in stocks and they should not be led into the mistake of choosing (or avoiding) particular sectors, according to the Research Head of Vertex Securities Ltd, Mr Sandeep Rajani.

He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Opportunities in the capital market' organised by the company. He said most investors often tend to make the mistake of choosing a particular sector, or avoiding it, at a particular point. “That is not the approach we recommend. Sectoral performance is not the sole criterion. Of course, it is one of the factors to be taken into account. But what really matters is the performance of the company and the fundamentals,” he said.

He expressed the opinion that the Indian market was still very attractive for the FIIs at this point. “This is also the ideal time for retail investors to enter the market. The market is in such a phase. But again the investors should study the stock carefully,” he said. He then mentioned the names of a few promising stocks such as L&T, HDFC, Britannia and others.
