The equity indices on Wednesday ended with gains and began the new quarter on a positive note.
The BSE Sensex ended 1.43 per cent higher at 35,414 while the NSE Nifty50 index closed at 10,430 points, up 1.24 per cent.
The Bank Nifty bettered in Wednesday's session, ending 2.8 per cent higher at 21,977. Axis Bank leads the gainer list.
The Nifty Pharma index was the sectoral laggard underperforming 1.02 per cent lower while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty too ended with losses.
The Nifty Midcap Index ended with gains of 0.5 per cent while the Smallcap index ended 0.85 per cent higher.
The market breadth remained in favour of advances with 1,003 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 833 posted losses.
