Expressing shock over attacks on women in parts of the country, State Bank Group Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya today said financial and educational empowerment was the only solution to help them have a proper place in society.
“I hung my head in shame when I read about the attack on women in parts of the country,” Bhattacharya said while handing over computers and projects at a local government girls high school as part of State Bank of Travancore’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme here.
In a reference to the incidents of rapes in parts of the country, she said, “It is shocking to read the horror meted out to women in parts of the country.”
Meanwhile, senior CPI-M leader P.K Sreemathi, the lone woman MP from the State, said repeated incidents of brutal attacks on women have damaged the cultural face of the country globally.
She hoped the BJP-led NDA government would take stern action to check violence against women in the country.
