The Salem Division of Southern Railways has completed track renewal work in a record time of four days.
The track from Salem to Jolarpet near Samalpatti Railway Station was renewed with a new track for a distance of about 2.5 km in four days, states a release from Salem Division.
The railways is using the most modern machinery and ensures that passenger traffic is not disturbed in any way. Had the work been done manually, it would have taken two months.
Renewal of this 20-year-old track is to take on heavier axle load. The work, including track implements, was completed at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
