The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) along with a flyover at Amar Mahal junction will be open to traffic this week on.
The Amar Mahal junction connects five major roads to the Eastern Express Highway with high traffic flow throughout the day. The link road will make commuting a lot easier for thousands of motorists.
The construction of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is complete while work on the Amar Mahal junction flyover is slated for completion this week.
MMRDA said the authorities decided to open both projects simultaneously to avoid traffic hold ups between the SCLR and Amar Mahal junction.
The SCLR and the Amar Mahal junction flyover are aimed at easing traffic snarls at Amar Mahal, Sion and Kalanagar junctions as also at Kurla.
MMRDA said the projects would also de-congest the Eastern and Western Express Highways significantly and enable travel from Santacruz to Chembur in 15-20 minutes. Today, it takes 60 to 90 minutes to cross the stretch during peak hours.
Monorail timing extendedTo cater to peak-hour traffic in the mornings and evenings, the MMRDA has also decided to extend monorail services to 14 hours a day, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., beginning April 15.
The monorail services, opened to the public on February 2, are operational between 7 am and 3 pm at a frequency of 15 minutes currently.
On an average, 64 services run daily. This will increase to about 112 services, Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director, MMRDA said.
“According to the extended schedule, the Mumbai monorail, covering 8.83 km between Wadala and Chembur, will run from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a frequency of 15 minutes. The first train will depart at 6 am from Wadala and Chembur respectively,” said Kawathkar.
