Amway India, the direct selling major received a legal setback today. Its bail petition to get relief for its Chief Executive Officer, William S Pinckney was dismissed by a Judge at the Sessions Court in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh.
While rejecting the bail application, the Judge ordered five days police custody from tomorrow. Pinckney will be shifted to the Khammam Jail on Thursday from Kadapa prison, where he was lodged on Tuesday, according to Kurnool police.
The Amway Chief, who was arrested by Kurnool Police on Monday evening in Gurgoan and brought to the town, was remanded to 14 days custody by a magistrate on Tuesday. Subsequently, he was shifted to the Kadapa jail.
Based on a complaint filed by Jagannatha Reddy, an Advocate in December 2013 the Amway Chief and company are facing charges of cheating under IPC (420) and violations under the (PCMCS) Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (banning) Act 1978.
