Andhra Pradesh is making judicious use of technology to frame and implement policies suited to the needs of the industry and by doing so the State is setting an example for others to follow, according to Union Minister of Industry and Commerce Suresh Prabhu.
He was speaking at a session on promoting ease of business here on Sunday at the annual partnership summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry which began here on Saturday. “AP is a fast growing state. If you invest here, you will grow with the State and the State will grow with you. It will be mutually beneficial,” he added.
The minister said that ease of doing business did not merely mean making it easy for the industrialist or entrepreneur in the initial stages to set up a unit, “but after setting up the unit, he or she must derive pleasure out of continuing with the business. The government’s policies should be so designed and implemented. It should be a long-time proposition.”
Earlier, Chandrababu Naidu gave an elaborate presentation on ease of doing business in the State. In the country, the State ranked first in ease of doing business and globally it was in the 88th position. He said the State wanted to be judged by global standards. He sought the co-operation of the Centre in moulding the State into a modern and industrialised one.
IIFT, IIP campuses planned
Two MoUs were signed in the presence of Suresh Prabhu and the Chief Minister for setting a campus of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and another for setting up a campus of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) at Kakinada. The State government has allotted 25 acres apiece for the two institutes.
The summit was inaugurated by the Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday evening. On day one of the summit, MoUs entailing investment of ₹31,546 crore were signed between the State and various private companies from India and abroad.
Google India signed an MoU for providing Wi-Fi connectivity to all villages in the State and the Adani group for developing a greenfield port at Bhavanapadu in Srikakulam district at a cost of ₹8,000 crore. The Adani group also committed an investment of ₹1,000 crore in solar energy projects in the State.
MoUs were signed for investment of nearly ₹8,000 crore in the tourism sector in the State, with several of the projects being in Visakhapatnam district.
