IIM-K to organise workshop on best teaching practices

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), will organise a 3-day workshop beginning January 29 on ‘Leading Schools Programme’ to familiarise school teachers, principals and educationists with the world’s best practices in creating centres of excellence and nurturing effective learning in the classroom.

Partnering IIM-K in this venture is Kerala business group Malabar Gold and Diamonds. During the workshop, 200 scholarships and four gold medals would be announced for school teachers.

Inspired by the vision of its Director, Prof Debashis Chatterjee, that “the best of India must take care of the rest of India”, IIMK aims to fundamentally mould education policies that opens the door of education excellence to underprivileged and un-reached communities, a press release here said.

This is the third of the series of workshops, sponsored by Malabar Gold & Diamonds to fulfil their share of what Prof. Chatterjee describes as ‘Corporate Educational Responsibility’.

Prof Chatterjee, who has designed the workshop, said it 'is a demonstration of the fact that the destiny of our country is being shaped in our classrooms’

“Our workshop is a commitment to reinventing teaching and learning excellence by encouraging schools to move away from the old-fashioned approach of teaching to a text toward learning in context. You can teach a child what is far only when he learns what is near. Technology is fast changing the way the younger generation receives information and teachers today have to adapt to their new learning environment,” he says.

Sharing his thoughts on the significance of school education and teachers, M. P. Ahammed, Chairman of the Malabar group of companies, said the group believes that quality education at the school level was important to build a base for secondary education and developing human resources in India.
