Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Hyderabad-based Centre for Human Security Studies for strategic studies relating to drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.
The MoU was signed on the occasion of United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which was observed by the Centre of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (CNPS) under the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of MAHE.
A press release from MAHE said that another MoU was signed with the Mumbai-based Bombay Hemp Company for cooperation in the field of medical cannabis.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, said the drug menace has to be eradicated on a war-footing as it is spreading its tentacles across the globe. Shreekumar Menon, head of CNPS, expressed concern on the shortage of rehabilitation centres to cater to the needs of the nearly six crore addicts in the country.
