The RBI is expected to hold its policy rate steady at its bi-monthly monetary policy review meeting on Tuesday. The focus is instead likely to shift to efficient transmission of the 150 basis points rate cuts announced since early 2015. At its last policy meeting in April, the bank cut the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.50 per cent from 6.75 per cent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Barack Obama at the White House to review the progress made in key areas of defence, security and energy during his two-day visit to the US where he will also address a joint meeting of the US Congress.
