International Water Association (IWA) along with the Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), MM Activ Sci Tech communications will be hosting the 7th Edition of the Water Loss 2016 in Bengaluru, from January 31 to February 3rd, 2016.

This biennial conference will be held at Lalit Ashok, and will address pressing issues like water-loss reduction strategies, management of distribution networks, energy efficiency (water loss and energy impacts), smart metering and largely the role of technology in improving water management efficiency. This conference comes in the backdrop of huge concerns evinced by many stakeholders on a possible water crisis.

Research estimates that the planet could face a 40 per cent shortfall in water supply by 2030. Millions of Indians currently lack access to clean drinking water and the demand for water is growing at an alarming rate. India currently has the world’s second largest population, which is expected to reach a staggering 1.6 billion by 2050; putting increasing strain on water resources as the population burgeons. India’s supply of water is rapidly dwindling primarily due to mismanagement of water resources, along with over-pumping and pollution as significant contributors.

T M Vijay Bhaskar, Chairman of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said: “Water efficiency and particularly drinking water loss is most crucial issue which has significant financial and environmental repercussions.  All stakeholders must actively participate in the efforts to increase the understanding of this crucial issue."

The event will have participation from over 10 countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, UK and the US.

Regional Director Asia of IWA, Mr. Ganesh Pangare said that the event will bring together leading experts and practitioners are critical to address the challenges and create capacities to implement effective and sustainable solutions.
