Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi here on Sunday urged the Union Government to allocate more funds to Andhra Pradesh for relief work in view of the devastation wrought by cyclone Hudhud in the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
Addressing the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employees near the plant’s main gate, he said he was shocked to see the extent of devastation and loss of green cover. “Vizag steel plant was not only known for its steel production but also for its green cover. In my earlier visits I could never see the factory from the road point, but now the entire factory is visible. It indicates the devastation,” he said.
He promised to exert pressure on the Centre for more funds for city. “Visakhapatnam has always been known for its industries, beauty and greenery. The cyclone has hit all the three. We have members in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and shall put pressure for early allocation of more funds for the city,” he said.
He also assured the employees that his party would oppose the disinvestment of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL).
