Tamil Nadu government has ordered for taking up works on improving the Paralaiyaru channel in Ramanathapuram at a cost of Rs 22.28 crore, which would benefit Paramakudi and Mudukulathur areas.
The proposed work would be taken up under Irrigated Agriculture Modernisation and Water-bodies Restoration and Management (IAMWARM) project, an official release said.
Excess water from Vaigai river has usually been diverted into Paralaiyaru channel, which would benefit water bodies in Paramakudi and Mudukulathur areas in Ramanathapuram district.
The new project would help taking more excessive water and prevent water being wasted, it said, adding it would benefit over 4,957 acres in the area.
