Bihar Government on Friday announced that it would launch a special drive against illegal sale of the Oxytocin used to extract milk from cattle and in vegetables.
Besides banning the open sale of Oxytocin in in the state on the direction of the Centre from this March, only veterinary hospitals have been authorised to keep it, minister in-charge for Health Vijay Chaudhary said in the Legislative Assembly in reply to a question of RJD’s Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
Despite prohibition, Oxytocin which has harmful side effects including causing impotency is being sold openly, Siddiqui alleged demanding strong measures to stop use of the harmful medicine for health of citizens.
Siddiqui cited example of European countries who have stopped import of veggies from India suspecting the usage of Oxytocin.
On this, Chaudhary assured the House that special drive would be launched soon to strictly impose a ban on Oxytocin in the state except where it has been authorised.
