Coffee cultivation is transforming the picturesque Araku valley, a popular tourist spot in Visakhapatnam district, and bringing about a qualitative change for the better in the lives of tribals, according to Manoj Kumar, the CEO of Naandi Foundation.
He was speaking at a meeting at Araku valley to distribute prizes to tribal coffee cultivators who excelled in producing coffee. He said the organic coffee produced in the valley was finding takers abroad.
He said the Naandi Foundation had been working for the past 15 years in promoting coffee cultivation in the valley for the past 15 years and the results were now visible. However, unfortunately, last year the Hudhud cyclone dealt a severe blow to coffee cultivation in the valley but the farmers had withstood it. He said that in the next 15 years or so coffee cultivation would bring about great changes in the valley.
