Karnataka Silks Industries Corporation Ltd (KSIC), a government of Karnataka enterprise, is partnering with Amazon.in and Flipkart to cater to the growing demand for Mysore Silk. Addressing the media at the launch of a Mysore silk saree exhibition, D Basavaraja, Chairman, KSIC, said increase in online sales, which grew from 30 sarees to 45 sarees a month compared to a year ago, has prompted the company to tie up with online retailers. “The proposal will be finalised in the next 15 days to one month,” he added.

Basavaraja said majority of the buyers online are youngsters working and studying abroad, who purchase sarees for gifting their parents and relatives here.

Apart from online sales, the demand for Mysore Silk sarees has been on the rise in Tamil Nadu as well. The company sells about ₹30-35 lakh worth of sarees a month in Tamil Nadu, almost double compared to 1.5 years ago where the sales stood at ₹15-20 lakh.

We are expecting a sale of up to ₹40 crore through our exhibition in Chennai for this Diwali.” The exhibition, which will be held from November 4 to 9, will showcase 890 sarees with the price range between ₹13,000 and ₹2.5 lakh.

Apart from Chennai, the company will hold exhibitions in Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Madurai as these cities have a strong customer base during Pongal.
