The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian industry must form some sort of consortium for the Indian industry to make a mark in the global market, and even to enhance presence in the domestic market, according to Naval Science and Technological Laboratory Director CD Malleswar.

He was speaking at the NSTL here on Friday on the occasion of Science Day celebrations.

‘Perfectly capable’ He said the Indian companies such as L&T were perfectly capable of executing major works in the global market but there were certain capability gas which would have to be bridged.

“Therefore, I feel some sort of a consortium approach is required. Some seed money should be set apart for it,” he said.

He said the NSTL here had certain world-class facilities such as the cavitation tunnel on which academics can work. Professors can be deputed to work in the NSTL, he suggested.

Skill development

DN Reddy, DRDO RAC chairman, said that “most of the engineering graduates today are unable to find suitable employment and are being forced to take up low paying jobs because they are lacking in skills”.

He asked students to focus on acquiring skills by going for internship or apprenticeship.

The students can participate in some of the projects being taken up by various DRDO establishments for acquiring hands on experience.
