In the wake of massive flooding two months ago in Jammu and Kashmir and last year in Uttrakhand, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are to discuss and come out with suitable engineering solutions.

INAE in its second edition of its mega event 'Engineers' Conclave-2014' (EC-2014) to be held from October 30 to November 1 at Bangalore is to discuss 'Emerging Space Applications' and 'Technologies for the Hill Regions'.

Dr K Radhakrishnan, Chairman, ISRO/Secretary, Department of Space is the Chair and Dr Baldev Raj, President, INAE/Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies, is the co-chair of Engineers' Conclave-2014. The meet will be inaugurated by Prof U R Rao, Chairman, PRL Council and Former Chairman, ISRO/Space Commission. The Valedictory Session will be Chaired by Dr K Kasturirangan, Chairman, Knowledge Commission, Government of Karnataka and Former Chairman ISRO/Space Commission.

Dr Baldev Raj addressing reporters said the technical sessions in the "Emerging Space Applications" theme will have 15 invited speakers from various organisations including ISRO and will cover energy and Infrastructure, weather and climate, natural resources monitoring, management and e-Governance, Early warning systems and communication and navigation.

The technical sessions for 'Technologies for the Hill Regions' will have 16 experts speaking on mountain weather, gravity flows and associated hazards, communications for hazardous conditions in the hill regions, earthquake and avalanche hazards in Himalayan regions and its mitigation and snow cover, water management and energy in the hill regions.
