The Habibganj—Indore AC double decker train, the first such service in Madhya Pradesh, will be flagged off tomorrow at Habibganj station in Bhopal by Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
A senior Railway Ministry official said the train service seeks to provide AC travel at a low cost to passengers in high density corridors.
This is the fourth AC double decker train in the country to become operational since 2011. The first such train was launched between Howrah and Dhanbad in October 2011.
Subsequently, the service was launched on three more routes between Jaipur—Delhi, Mumbai—Ahemedabad and Chennai—Bangalore to cater to the growing demand of passengers.
Manufactured at Rail Coach factory in Kapurthala, the trademark red and yellow stainless steel, 120—seater coaches are equipped with several technological features.
The coaches are equipped with anti—climbing technology to prevent a pile—up of bogies in the case of a mishap.
Some of the other features include a GPS—based passenger information system that scrolls real-time running position, train speed and distance to the next station, besides multiple shock absorbers for a smooth ride, as well as fire extinguishers in all coaches.
