CBEC and Service Tax Department along with Commercial Tax Department should work in unison for the smooth implementation of Goods and Services Tax regime in Kerala, said Pullela Nageswara Rao, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, Kerala.
Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax (CBEC) and VAT Commissioner will work together to sort out the issues and problems faced by the business, trading and industry fraternity while implementing the GST, he said during the inaugural address at the one day awareness workshop on ‘GST – Transition and way forward’ organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) along with KPMG in Kochi with the support of ICAI, Cochin Chapter, and World Trade Centre, Kochi.
The tax departments will be partners-in-progress to the business fraternity.
The role of departments will change from enforcement agencies to facilitators. Instead of worrying about an uncertain tax regime, the business community can concentrate on expanding its activities, he added.
