Mechanised fishing boat operators are up in arms over the State government’s decision to hike the registration and licence fee of fishing boats.
According to them, the move comes as a blow as the fishing community is faced with spiralling fuel cost and low catch.
Joseph Xavier Kalappurackal, general secretary of the Kerala Fishing Boat Operators Association, said the neighbouring States are extending concessions to the fishing community by reducing diesel prices and offering other supports.
