Project 511, an initiative of Hyderabad Round Table 8, is organising a Food for Change, a charity dinner on October 15 as part of DaanUtsav. Proceeds of the dinner will go to Project 511’s school development initiatives.
Joined by corporates and corporate executives, Project 511 was originally conceived 10 years ago to develop infrastructure of 511 government schools in Hyderabad. “The scope has been expanded to 1,022 as the support for the initiative swells,” M R Shantaram, a senior member of Round Table, has said.
A group of star hotels from the city extended support to the charity dinner. Sportsmen VVS Laxman and Pullela Gopichand, film actresses Samantha and Rakul Preet Singh are among celebrities that have agreed to take part in the event, which is targeted to have 1,000 guests.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday to announce the details of the charity event, he said a lot of problems including shortage of infrastructure and teachers were identified in government schools.
Srinivasan Namala, Chairman of Project 51, said that a pilot was planned to improve proficiency in 25 schools. “After assessing the results, we will do a similar pilot to focus on Maths teaching,” he said.
