An analysis of vote share, margin of victory and representativeness of winners in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said 42 (45 per cent) out of 94 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above.
The report also said 74 (40 per cent) out of 187 crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above.
Margin of victory
Among the 94 winners with declared criminal cases, 55 MLAs have won against runners up with a clean background.
“Among these 55 winners, 10 have won with more than 20 per cent margin of victory. Among these, Imarti Devi (Congress) from Dabara constituency won with 38 per cent margin,” the report said.
There are 50 MLAs in the Assembly with a clean background who have won against their immediate rival with declared criminal cases. “Out of these 50 winners, eight have won with more than 20 per cent margin of victory,” the report said.
Among the 187 crorepati winners, 35 have won against non- crorepati runners up.
“Among these 35 winners, five winners have won with more than 20 per cent margin of victory. Among these, Imarti Devi’s victory margin is 28 per cent. There are 30 non- crorepati winners who have won against crorepati runners-up. Only one of them has won with more than 20 per cent,” the report added.
Among the 230 members in the Assembly, 21 are women. Kalawati Bhuriya of the Congress and and Rambai Govind Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party have won with less than 40 per cent of vote share.
Raksha Santram Saroniya of the Congress got the highest vote share of 62 per cent.
