State-owned infrastructure development company Inkel Ltd is set to enter solar power sector, hi-tech agriculture and construction of roads and bridges.

The State government has agreed to extend full support to the endeavour, Managing Director T Balakrishnan said.

“The Chief Minister and the Industries Minister have promised to offer us the opportunity to develop major projects, mainly construction of roads and bridges. The government is fully supportive of making Inkel a global company from Kerala,” Balakrishanan said.

Solar power project

The company has launched a solar power project in PPP model. The objective is to enter into tie-ups with large commercial buildings and educational institutions to set up solar power units on their premises on a turnkey basis.

“We will initially focus on commercial projects and in due course take up residential projects,” Balakrishnan said, he said.

With a long-term vision on agriculture, the organisation is working towards developing a successful agri-farming model. Discussions are on with various parties, including one from overseas, to take it up in a big way. The company has already set up poly houses at various places as part of venturing into hi-tech agri-farming.

Land purchase

The company, which has successfully delivered two business parks in Malappuram and Angamaly, has decided to purchase land directly from the owners at market rate and not to depend on the government for it.

“We have bought five acres in Ernakulam and 50 acres in Palakkad directly from the market. People are approaching us to sell land but our priority is not to create a huge land bank. Instead, we will look for land only when we have appropriate projects,” Balakrishnan said.

Apart from taking up infrastructure projects, Inkel has emerged as a top project management consultant to major government departments and private players. The project management consultancy is one of the major revenue generating wings.
