Innovative Foods Ltd, a major player in the country's food processing industry, is set to expand its manufacturing capacity with a second processing unit in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

To be commissioned in about four-five months, this project is expected to further strengthen its back-end while almost doubling its manufacturing capacity.

The first unit has a capacity of 300 tonnes per month and the second unit will take it up by another 300 tonnes per month, and also facilitate the company to offer a number of other products, Saurabh Kumar, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, IFL, told BusinessLine .

“The second in Chittoor will not only broaden the range of frozen products but also increase the capacity. This would then enable us to expand our frozen chain network, including in a number of Tier-II cites,” he said.

The company, which markets its products under the Sumeru brandname in India and abroad, has launched a new line of parathas. These include beetroot and jeera, turmeric and ajwain, methi and spinach and multi grain paratha. “These parathas are slightly difficult to make at homes. So we believe they will have potential," he said.

Kumar said, “The growing acceptance of frozen food in India has pushed us out of our seats to think of new products. Providing convenience and versatility to consumers has been one of the core pillars on which our product portfolio stands and our aim has been to enable consumers create restaurant-like meals at home.”

The company says its new paratha range is a combination of taste, health and excitement.

Chef Ajay Chopra, Brand Ambassador for Sumeru, who was earlier a judge on Master Chef India, said, “Parathas are a favourite across India and with a little innovative thinking, they can easily be adapted to a variety of dishes.”
