Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday visited the Polavaram project site in West Godavari district and reviewed the progress of works. It was the first time he has visited the site after becoming CM.

He was accompanied by the State Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister P. Subhashchandra Bose and Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu.

The CM first conducted an aerial survey of the project site and then held a meeting with officials to review the works. Later, he also met people affected by the project and assured them of proper relief and rehabilitation works. He received representations from them.

Briefing the media after he left the project site, State Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav said there was a temporary stoppage of works due to the Godavari floods, but "the works would be taken up after four months and would be completed in a time-bound manner. We are aware that the mega irrigation project on the Godavari is the lifeline of the state and the CM has left clear instructions with officials to take up and complete the works in a time-bound manner."

He said that relief and rehabilitation works would be taken up simultaneously and "for us the proper implementation of R&R package is as important as the speedy construction of the dam. Mostly, Girijans are affected by the project and we will do justice to them and others as well."

State Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu said that without creating any hype the present CM had reviewed the project works and "we will complete the project works in due course."
