The Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate in Mangaluru is targeting a revenue collection of ₹11,000 crore by the end of March, according to M Subramanyam, Commissioner of Central Excise, Service Tax and Customs, Mangaluru.

Speaking at the Central Excise Day celebrations in Mangaluru on Wednesday, he said the Commissionerate had collected Central Excise revenue of ₹8,325 crore and Service Tax revenue of ₹563 crore till the end of January during 2015-16.

There was an increase of 127 per cent in Central Excise revenue and 30.4 per cent in Service Tax revenue during the period. He attributed the growth in the Central Excise revenue to the increase in the duty on petroleum products.

Lauding taxpayers for their compliance, he said the number of cases filed by the department had come down during the year. Stating that the department had made four arrests last year, he said Mangaluru Commissionerate has made only one arrest till now during the current year.

H Kumar, Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, and Jai Kumar Garg, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Corporation Bank, were the guests on the occasion.
