German wholesale firm Metro Cash & Carry has invested Rs 70 crore on its facility in Hyderabad at Shamshabad. It is going to open its fourth facility in Bangalore next week.
The Shamshabad facility is the third one for the firm in Hyderabad and 17{+t}{+h} in the country. It caters to its customers in the Southern part of the city, while the other two caters to the eastern and western parts of the city.
“The city has scope for 2-3 more stores,” Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director of Metro Cash & Carry India, said.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said a store can cater to a catchment area of 10 lakh people. “We have accelerated our footprint growth. We opened 12 stores in the last four years,” he said.
The firm caters to hotels, restaurants, caterers, small and medium sized traders. Each store, which requires an investment of Rs 70 crore, provides 300 jobs. It has stores in 12 cities in the country.
“Telangana is an important sourcing centre for us. Besides vegetables, we source chicken for our customers in Punjab,” he said.
